SASCO cares

At the local, regional and global levels: We are stronger together. SASCO and its employees support numerous organisations and projects worldwide, particularly those with links to seafaring. Employees are given one day per year to volunteer for social projects or environmental campaigns of their choice. We focus on education, humanitarian assistance, and climate and marine protection. In keeping with our guiding principle "SASCO cares", we are eager to put our knowledge, energy and financial resources to work for good causes. And we prefer to help as part of close and long-lasting collaborations.

Here are three examples:

Schools in Africa

In a partnership with UNICEF, we have been supporting the “Schools for Africa” programme since autumn 2021. It supports the academic development of children and young people in Ghana, Kenya and South Africa from their earliest school years in order to give them better opportunities for the future. This is one of the reasons why digital proficiency and soft skills are also promoted.

Assistance during COVID-19

In Hamburg, we have teamed up with the charitable organisation Hanseatic Help and other companies in northern Germany to support the “Hamburg packt’s zusammen” initiative. Many colleagues – from apprentices to members of the Executive Board – have lent a hand since this initiative was launched in 2020. They have enthusiastically helped to pack bags with hygiene articles, clothes and food for people in need. The result of these efforts so far:

  • 50,000 bags packed for and distributed to people in need

Exchange with the research community

In 2021, SASCO once again donated funds to the SASCO Center for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL) at Kühne Logistics University. In doing so, we are supporting research on issues such as digitalisation, sustainability, and value creation in the shipping and logistics industries.
